Photo walk through street art Zagreb

After seeing how great the street art scene is in Ljubljana or Belgrade I had big hopes for street art Zagreb as well. But to my big disappointment I wasn’t attacked from each corner by great murals, stickers or paintings, there were only some random tags or Zagreb graffiti and these were pretty hidden too.

I was slowly realizing my defeat when I ended up close to the train station, at Kneza Branimira street, and suddenly it was like a street art paradise. The long wall – maybe half a kilometer long – is all covered in various murals seething with creativity. Some of them are exceptional, others are just decent but altogether they make a wonderful gallery that every street art lover will surely appreciate.

As it quickly turned out finding great street art works is one of the best things to do in Zagreb.

Street art Zagreb and the Museum of Street Art

But the wall along Kneza Branimira street isn’t the only hub of Zagreb street art. The capital of Croatia is where the Museum of Street Art can be found. It has few locations spread all over the city – in the neighborhood of Dugave and Siget as well as inside the abandoned military hospital at Valaska 87.

However the wall connecting train and bus station was the first one in this project and around 80 street art artists were invited to create their work there. The project got a great positive response from the locals that claimed the street art makes their everyday walks more enjoyable hence the Museum of Street Art continued their works in different locations.

Unfortunately I didn’t have enough time to check all the places where the street art Zagreb can be seen. But I definitely can recommend Kneza Branimira street and Medica – a former medical factory, now a squat and the core of alternative culture in the city.
